This autumn, National Trust Cymru is celebrating Calan Gaeaf at places across Wales.

Calan Gaeaf marks the beginning of winter in the Welsh calendar on 1 November. Traditionally, the night before – Nos Galan Gaeaf on 31 October – was associated with the changing of the seasons and a time when the boundary between this world and the Otherworld was thought to be at its thinnest.

At Chirk Castle, discover some of the folklore and curious stories connected with the castle and surrounding area as you follow a family trail through the garden.

Along the trail, stop at interactive activity stations designed to get you and your little explorers moving, looking, playing and discovering stories together. Pick up your free trail guide when you arrive and explore at your own pace.

With autumn leaves underfoot and the medieval castle rising above the garden, Calan Gaeaf is a chance to discover a different side of Chirk as the days grow shorter.

Wrap up warm, bring your curiosity and see what stories you uncover this October half term.
